e-wasteland

The afterlife of our electronic gadgets, and the environmental and human health consequences they produce are rarely considered in any stage of design, neither when creating digital artworks. Digital artists have long been using technology and electronics as their main tools of creation. In recent years, we’ve seen an increased number of digital artists exploring topics related to nature, the environment and climate change. However, it is still rare to see them questioning the environmental and socio-economic aspects of the technology and the materials they use. How can artists, designers, curators and cultural institutions challenge the paradigm of waste?.

This panel is dedicated to exploring the topics of e-waste and sustainability from an artistic, design and economic point of view. It brings together digital artists, curators and critics to discuss what is needed to provoke a cultural shift that will alleviate the problems associated with the e-waste crisis.

Panel moderated by Carmen Salas.
